Samantha Mayberry's Success Story

Samantha Mayberry

Where you are from? I am from New Castle, Pennsylvania

What sparked your interest in a career in the skilled trades? It was my FFA advisor at Laurel High School that got me interested in welding. I took welding in his shop class and I enjoyed it and he said I had a "knack" for it that was back in 9th grade and I continued with welding/shop classes until I graduated.

What school will you be attending? I am attending PMI in Meadville

What field of study are you embarking on? Welding

How did you hear about the 2018 Work Ethic Scholarship? I learned about the Mike Rowe Works scholarship from my mom. She had seen it on Facebook and we have always been a "Dirty Jobs" fan and thought it would be fun to just apply, honestly at first we looked into just to say we did it but when I was notified I was a recipient I could not believe it and have been so proud to tell it to anyone who will listen.

What area of Mike Rowe’s S.W.E.A.T pledge resonates the most with you as your pursue your new career? The Sweat Pledge statement that means the most to me is #3 which is I believe there is no such thing as a bad job. I believe that all jobs are opportunities and it’s up to me to make the best of them because all jobs have a purpose and need done to complete the bigger project so it doesn't matter if it isn't the most pleasing it still needs to be complete.
