Where you are from? Reinholds, PA
What sparked your interest in a career in the skilled trades? I’ve always enjoyed staying active and working with my hands, so electronics engineering seemed like an obvious choice. As a kid, I would tinker with light switches, light bulbs, wires, and whatever else I could get my hands on in my dad’s workshop. As I got older, I started thinking about retirement and realized I needed more sustainable income for my two boys and myself.
What school will you be attending? York Technical Institute
What field of study are you embarking on? Electronic Engineering Technology
How did you hear about the 2018 Work Ethic Scholarship? The student services director at school emailed the student body with the scholarship information. I thought, if I don’t try, that’s an automatic no, if I try, I have a 50/50 shot, so why not!
What area of Mike Rowe’s S.W.E.A.T pledge resonates the most with you as you pursue your new career? Pledge number 5 says, “I deplore debt and do all I can to avoid it. I would rather live in a tent and eat beans than borrow money to pay for a lifestyle I can’t afford.” I’m in the process of paying off debt which should be eliminated soon after I start my new career in January 2020. One of my goals is to remain debt free so I can enjoy my life and all of my hard work! I’m determined to be free of these chains called debt as soon as possible and remain that way.
